Where to eat at Lake Anna, with or without a boat
Nobody books a lake house for the restaurant scene, and Lake Anna is not pretending otherwise. What the lake does have is a short list of places that are exactly right for what they are, plus the best dining room in the area, which is the one in your rental. Here is how to eat well for a weekend.
Arrive by water
The move that makes Lake Anna feel like Lake Anna is docking for lunch. Tim's at Lake Anna is the standby, open year-round, with local fish and crabs next to burgers and steaks and a deck that looks down the water. The Cove at Lake Anna runs livelier, with a bar, live music, happy hour specials, and Pirates Cove downstairs where the cornhole gets competitive. And El Gran Patron at Pleasants Landing does Mexican with boat slips out front, which is a combination nobody argues with after a morning of tubing.
Worth the drive
The town of Mineral holds the small-town essentials: ice cream, mini golf, and on Saturday mornings from May through October, the Mineral Farmers Market, where the tomatoes and peaches for tomorrow's breakfast get picked by whoever you send. The best table on the lake is at the house
Here is the local secret: the best meal of a Lake Anna weekend is almost always cooked, not ordered. One big night, planned loosely. Market vegetables from Saturday morning, something for the grill, one person in charge of the sauce and someone else on music. If your house has a kitchen worth the name and a screened porch worth sitting on, dinner becomes the entire evening, and no restaurant on any lake beats it.
