Wineries, breweries, and cider near Lake Anna
The back roads around Lake Anna hide a respectable tasting trail, the kind where you never fight for a parking spot and the person pouring might own the place. If your group's ideal afternoon involves a flight and a view, here is the local map.

Lake Anna Winery is the anchor, a family-operated vineyard on Courthouse Road in Spotsylvania with a tasting room in a converted barn and a calendar of seasonal events. It is the classic first stop, close enough to the lake that nobody complains about the drive.
In Mineral, Coyote Hole Ciderworks pours hard ciders made from Virginia apples, with gluten-free options that solve a problem someone in every group has. And the lake now has a brewery of its own in Cooling Pond Brewery, a name only Lake Anna could have produced, since the entire lake is technically one.
Worth the drive
Spread out from the lake and the list gets long. Mattaponi Winery in Spotsylvania pours wines with Native American names and doubles as a Christmas tree farm in December, which is the most Virginia sentence in this post. 53rd Winery and Weston Farm Vineyard both pour in Louisa on the lake's west side. Up toward Fredericksburg, 1781 Brewing Company and Wilderness Run Vineyards share a working farm, farmhouse ales and estate wines on the same property with animals wandering the grounds.
For the full pilgrimage, Barboursville Vineyards sits about an hour west, home of Octagon and the ruins of a Jefferson-designed mansion on the grounds. And A. Smith Bowman Distillery in Fredericksburg has been making spirits since 1935, for the group whose tasting flight skews brown.
Run the afternoon right
Two stops is a tasting trail; four is a logistics problem. Pick two, maybe three, eat a real lunch first, and settle the driver question before the first pour, whether that is a rotating designated driver or a hired one. Then be home by golden hour, because the last light on the water is the pour nobody should miss.
